Ellinguram: Spencer's writing on Ireland is an early articulation of the ideology of colonialism. He suggests that the Irish are descendants of these Scythians who, in antiquity, were considered to be the most barbaric of the barbarians. If the English could just exterminate the locals or completely overturn their way of life, then the place wouldn't be half bad, Ellinguram says.
