The History of Invasive Species
In the 19th century, American Acclimatization societies introduced exotic species to feed a growing human population. They brought zebras and kangaroos to Paris and Chinese sheep to London. William Wot, an ornithologist, published a hugely popular book called Road to Survival in 1948 warning about human overpopulation. By the early 1970s, that idea that human populations were exploding like animal populations was everywhere.
