If the ribs don't move, it's going to put too much pressure on the internal organs. The abdominals aren't going to be able to work properly. So I teach people to do abdominal exercises, lying on the back, your knees are bent. You interlace your hands and bring them behind your head, but you bring your elbows forward so you can cradle your head and carry the weight of the head with your arms. And if you do that, you move to move your ribcage down. The sternum moves down towards the belly button. Then you can do whatever sit up thing, kind of thing you want,.
