The idea that at some point in the past, when someone asked the question, who am I? They looked outside themselves. And it's almost intuitive that all of those outward things are a threat to that inward person. Do you feel like there are some clear consequences to looking inward to find out who you are to the exclusion of looking outward? "I think we become less tolerant of ways in which our desires are curtailed by social expectations," she says.
