The Three Major Classes of Antifungal Medication Commonly Used in the ICU

There are three major classes of antifungal medications. Polyenes, azals, and echinocandums. We will focus on amphotericin B as this agent is used clinically to treat most all fungal infections. An electrolyte should be closely monitored and aggressively replaced during therapy. The use of concomitant nephrotoxic medication should be minimized as much as possible.
