The Battle for Apple's V1 Operating System
Apple was working on a new kernel for their operating system and this new version of the OS which was known as V1. We said, we don't think V1 will be there in time for us to ship power PC. So we created something we called V0. And we started bleeding talent because if you don't believe in a product, you're not going to work on it and you're going to leave. It was so bad we were drawing tombstones on the whiteboards and the hallway and writing names on them of engineers who left.
