The Importance of Intrinsic Motivation

intrinsic motivation is the desire to do something because it's enjoyable. It took a long time for science to admit that there could be such a motivation. People might enjoy doing something but then if you start to reward them to do it or to surveil them or judge them then they will lose the desire, says Kudita. This idea of the undermining of intrinsic motivation has huge consequences for how we try to motivate other people.
