Visceral Abdominal Fat

The visceral abdominal fat depot drains directly into the portal vein, which goes directly to the liver. With most adipose tissue, it spills into the general circulation and that spillover affects many organs equally. The liver has this unique vulnerability because all of the fat is directed to the liver to go in and out. If there's any limitation on the liver's ability to export it, the liver gets hit far harder than any of these other organs do.
