The Importance of Specialization in the Semiconductor Industry

The best chemicals come from Japanese firms, many of the most specialized machine tools and software tools come from the US. The specialization has been absolutely critical to producing the innovation and efficiency that makes the semiconductor industry work at the level it does today. So we shouldn't look at specialization and say it's a bad thing. It's been a great thing. The question is, does the specialization and that concentration of certain parts of the supply chain and specific geographies create risks to the resiliency of supply in case of crisis? That's what we need to be focusing on.
