Elizabeth Bishop and Lotta Lowell

Elizabeth Bishop didn't publish that many poems in her life, only about a hundred. I think Lotta was drawn to artistic people and was herself of an artistic temperament. They collected art together, they collected called their stabbials and they collected antiques. Elizabeth liked the culture of Brazil and Lotta had grown up in Brazil and she was interested in European artists a little bit more. But at any rate, one of the things that drew Elizabeth to say in Brazil was Lotta said I'm going to build you a studio in which you can work and you can just write your poetry here.
