The Risk of Bulimia in Children

Weight concerns, low self-esteem, depression, and social anxiety are associated with the development of bulimia. Internalization of a thin body ideal has been found to increase risk for developing weight concerns in childhood. Individuals who experience physical or sexual abuse are also at increased risk for developing bulimia because they can't control their weight.
