Is There a Timetable for Phonics?
Neil Mitchell: What would you change on a systemic level so that more than 27% of pupils can be considered to be considered the most important thing to do? He says disadvantaged children did worse because they don't have any devices anywhere and get no chance to practice. But he thinks phonics is something we have to do and it's the best way, but then when you look at time tables or number of ones there is a huge variation in ways that that's taught. And I wonder as well, systemically thinking about my lack of times, 12 times tables knowledge. That's my question. Could we go back to doing up to 10 times 10 enough? Would that make a difference?
