Plato says most people spend their lives watching shadows move across the wall, not looking at the real thing. Here he doesn't mean allithia and the Haddagarian recuperative sense of the pre-socratic truth that shows itself. The place in question is the entrance to the cave toward the exit of which Plato guides us. It's designed to show you the difference between public opinion, toxin, and truth.
