The Evolution of Monarchy
Once established, these kinds of natural states can endure indefinitely without ever making the transition to what we would call modernity or liberalism. They work in the sense that they don't, they are not internally flawed in their logic. Monarchy is like this thing. You might have different names for it. That is kind of an emergent property of strong manism, of stationary banditism. It's amazing how many bad political ideas are premised on an assumption that there's not a really meaningful distinction between friend and stranger or relative and friend.
