The Gender of Witchcraft in the Holy Roman Empire

There was clearly a sense that witchcraft was gendered as we know you'll think of the witches or women but yeah as you said 25% 25% were men. Around 10 to 12,000 trials of men in the Holy Roman Empire that is not an insignificant minority and so I think it's really interesting to think about how the gendering of witchcraft plays out. Women were definitely seen as the weaker sex, religiously, socially, biologically as well they were seen often as failed males.
