Jesus Is the Way and We Are His

Jesus is making a contrast between himself and the religious leaders the Pharisees He said he talks about a hired hand, right? A hired hand doesn't really care about the sheep. So just like the shepherds of old who who tended their own flock and laid in front of the gate so that if a wolf came He would be there to fight it and fend it off. That's what Jesus is doing here. If no gate shepherds would sometimes lay in front of it and give up their life Listen third. I am the good shepherd the good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep Jesus is our protector. He's our provider He's our defender He's our everything right
