CHAPTER

How to Identify the Next Big Thing That Is Engineerable in Biology

Jillian Banfield at Berkeley has for a long time been working on bacterial metagenomes and that basically just means being able to take the DNA sequences from microbes stitch them back together. She was actually one of the very first people to come across CROSPR sequences by doing that kind of thing but as you can imagine she's coming across all sorts of really interesting observations in her work. We struggle to figure out where do we want to focus our efforts and is it worth going after the next CROSPR system versus should we be casting our net in a different direction.
