The Multiplication of the Loaves and the Fish

A year earlier, Jesus had taken the loaves and blessed and broke it. He then teaches what we call the Eucharistic discourse about how you must eat his flesh and drink his blood to have eternal life. The language is in it inextricably bound up with the Passover background. For ancient Jews, Passover was a monumentally important feast.
