Most of the country ended daylight saving time after the war. But new york city held on to it, and that eventually prompted other cities to do the same. In 19 65, minnesota, twin cities, saint paul and minneapolis, which are right next to each other, actually changed their clocks on different dates. The thinking behind nixon's decision to keep the clocks moved ahead was that it wouldre duce the amount of electricity we consume.
