MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - Dead Reckoning

Art of the Cut

CHAPTER

The Importance of Close-Ups in Mission Impossible

There's not a single easy sequence in this whole film you know apart from maybe Ethan getting the mission briefing because it's one guy and some photographs on the table but all the other sequences are multiple characters parallel storytelling editorially. We're always cutting when there's a very important word or an important piece of information but the rhythms of these scenes are built so that McEaw wants you to kind of drift around it as our minds do. If you tune out for a few beats every so often it won't matter because he knows that he's got you paying attention when you really need to hear the important stuff.
