In 1967, Charles Dederick decided to end the concept of graduation entirely. His justification was that most ex addicts would revert to using once they left. Relapse rates for addiction within the first year are between 40 and 60%. The best way to ensure no one relapsed was to ensure that no one ever left rehab. Such techniques kept the wagons circled. Members were increasingly forced to confess to misdeeds during sessions.
