The idea that the universe is knowable and it's governed by laws is actually a christian idea at least. This was called natural theology many years ago. Natural theology contrast it with revealed theology. Instead of saying we know things about the divine because of what god told moses on mount sinai, or some other form of revelation. We learn about the divine from looking at the universe that was created. And even togh i'm an atheist.
