Innovation Is a Resource Allocation Problem, Right?

Innovation at the end of the day is a resource allocation problem. And when your strategy and your portfolio are set up to orient resources, both people and funds towards incremental things, it creates a real problem for organizations going after best opportunities. Many times you say we hear, oh, we piloted in one market, but it never really got to the second market or never reallygot to the next customer. The question always is, did you plan to get it there from the start or were you treating the idea like a Petri dish and then deciding whether or not it was worthwhile scaling? We often say companies just hurt themselves in the process of taking things to market.
