Travis King Is in North Korea Custody After Crossing the Border With North Korea
Private second class Travis King was supposed to board a flight back to the US on Monday to face disciplinary charges after he spent two months in South Korean prison for assault. He managed to ditch his escort and ended up joining a group of tourists headed to visit the heavily guarded border with North Korea, which is over an hour and a half away. The Pentagon said he quote willfully and without authorization crossed the demilitarized zone separating North and South Korea. His detention comes amid heightened tensions between the US and North Korea as Pyongyang has been testing increasingly more powerful long range ballistic missiles.
