The Importance of Environmental Law in the Gulf of Mexico
In Guyana, there are stronger environmental regulations than in the Gulf of Mexico. This is because it's got a century or so of being utilized by the industry. It also means that when you've got a company like Exxon starting work in a place like Gana they don't have any of that built up competence and expertise to deal with these problems. The World Bank fast tracked this grant to Guyana to create and grow like a petroleum regulatory department in its EPA. So they started to build that out.
