The Importance of Understanding Fascism
There is certainly an awareness of what's going on in Germany. It wasn't exactly clear how fascism would work in Spain. And it's not clear really whether fascism is just a way of repressing the left or whether it is a more generative political project in its own right. The socialists seem particularly impacted by what happens in Austria, so the crushing of the Austrian socialist movement. They see Dolphus as a Catholic authoritarian leader and perhaps closer to what they would see in Spain.
