The Influence of the Qing on the Nationalist Movement

In your book, Translucent Mirror, you make the argument that what the Qing did under Qian Long influenced some of the Han Chinese nationalist writers. Can you explain how this influence was manifested in their writings? It comes mostly from the fact that the Qing, like the other great land empires of the early modern period, over the course of time, this historicization I've been talking about is a huge part of the project. At the end of the empire, as these orders are losing their coercive power, everybody can choose. Are you going to internalize the materials provided by the empire as they relate to somehow rather composing this identity that you want to assume? Or are you going to reject it
