Senate watergate committee received a million and a half letters over the course of just a few months. One company began selling a device marketed as a long distance lie detector. Famous writers like mary mc carthy and norman mayler came through, as did barber streizand dick cavitt. The hearing room itself was small, stiflingly hot and crowded with spectators and reporters.
