The Importance of Conlang in Science Fiction and Fantasy

One of the biggest pitfalls for beginning science fiction and fantasy writers is that there would too much of it on the page. I myself have to rein that instinct in when there's things going on, or I'm putting things onto the page which doesn't actually contribute to the story. And I think late George R.R. Martin might possibly fall into this camp as well.
