How to Create a Semantic Memory

If I'm trying to create a semantic memory what are some of the ways that are really helpful to do that semantic memory much like muscle memory is it feels like work to learn it. If I can associate a lot of other information that I already know with the new stuff that will help our brains love visual imagery so if I can attach of something visual and especially if that's something visual is maybe a little strange or or somehow exciting or memorable that will help too self-testing.
