There was a man named mark hoffman operating in utah in the 19 seventies who was i guess, a styled experts on, like, ancient texts. And he figured out that if he made forgeries, he could just sell them and make money. He knew enough to forge a letter that joseph smith wrote referencing a salamander,. Then he presented it to the church, and the church bought it, like, they paid money for it. I don't know exactly how it all spun out of control, but next thing you know, mark hoffsman is a making bombs and trying to cover up his tracks by a sending the bombs to people.
