Zen Buddhism in Japan
The word Zen is a Japanese way of pronouncing a Chinese word which is Zhang. The Sanskrit word Zhang means contemplation, contemplation of what? Contemplation of the divine presence that inhabits all things. When Buddhism went from India to China, it was gradually assimilated to the Chinese attitude toward life. And in the eighth century this term was given and Diana or Zhang meant rather walking than sitting. Then this Buddhism, this contemplative Buddhism, contemplation while walking while being in life went to Japan.
