Medanet-Paz and Ramesses III made out their enemies to have been more threatening than they really were. They might have compressed a bunch of small, inconsequential skirmishes into something rather more suited to a glorious monumental inscription. Most scholars working on this period accept that at least the bare outline of events as described in Egyptian texts did take place.
