Polling Mistakes in the Last Two American Presidential Elections
The types of people you talk to may not be representative of the population as a whole. In two thousand 16 most polsters were not balancing their samples by the interaction of race and on. That means they weren't getting enough non college educated white voters in their pole. And so they underestimated the candidate whom those non college white voters favored, and that was donald trump.
