In 19 forty one, the n a c p had taken on the case of an aspiring engineering student from louisville named charles lamont ebanks. The state segregated black college had no engineering programme, so banks applied to the local all white public university and was rejected. In the end, the case was dismissed. Ebanks, or any black high school graduate in kentucky who wanted to study engineering, would have to look out of state. Pretty much everything was set up to encourage wywi to either give up un engineering or go to school somewhere else.
