Introduction

There's a controversy in our field right now and we are re-examining the idea of the DSM diagnosis of oppositional defiant disorder. Many therapists believe that this is not an appropriate diagnosis for a child under the age of five. We should look to the nervous system, look to their development, their neurodevelopment to discover the causes of those behaviors rather than labeling a child with a pretty severe and stigmatizing diagnosis.
