The Evil of Child Marriage in the US

In the US, marriage for older teenagers is usually defended on the grounds of making it possible for a teen girl who becomes pregnant to marry the father of her child so they have more social and economic stability. Muslim apologists defend child marriage as being something that emulates what Islam's founder, Muhammad, did when he married a girl named Aisha. Most medieval sources say Aisha was 6 or 7 years old when she was married to Muhammad and that the marriage was consummated when she was 9 years old. However, some Muslim scholars have tried to reinterpret Aisha's age to make her an early teen when she wasmarried.
