Sociology can help us understand why people commit suicide, says author. He argues that the medical model is often over applied and glosses over variation in suicides. In some cultures depression isn't seen as a cindrum that precedes suicide - it's seen as an impulsive act. S being sad cause your wife died was like a normal human reaction to loss of someone you love. But he believes we need to distinguish between external events and internal sadness.
