The Molecular Building Blocks of Life
Sillye, they're built, like nearly everything biology, by proteins. Those proteins are made out of a molecule called in amino acid. One type is called the lamino acids, and the other kind is called the d amino acids. And their different shapes in the same way that your two hands are different shapes, one is a mirror image of the other. For whatever reason, we don't really understand why life predominantly uses the l kind of a meno acid and not the d kind. So it's a bit speculative, but we could trace back the origin of our organized symmetries all the way down to this fundamental molecular difference.
