libertarianism has a long history of fusion with the republican party, is part of a broad anti communist coalition. Andy says there needs to be some soul searching about how did this fester for so long without being really confronted and separated? In other countries liberal we know what we call liberals favor individual rights and economic sanity. They are represented in their parliaments and sometimes members of governing coalitions. We don't have that in america. A lot of people who support populists in the democratic parties do it because they're not supportive of protectionist trade policies or really hate immigrants. i think you see a lot of people looking for answers on where to go from here.
