The Duty of the Social Critic
The impulse to critique society came fairly naturally as a consequence. But it was something that, you know, rereading your work throughout it, you seem to tacitly or sometimes explicitly defend the role of the social critic. And I think today the social critic is not only a rare figure, but also a pretty unpopular one. It's like being a pundit, except worse, maybe more cantankerous and more aloof. So I wanted to ask you how you understand this and whether you indeed do see it as a duty to be a social critic.
