Crane and Kaufman recall in the interview with the Academy that this executive still worried about how Monica would be perceived. He forced them to hand out a survey to test audiences asking if the storyline was offensive or should be changed. Crane says the audience responded with a resounding, Who cares? We like her. Despite these reservations, the network must have had a pretty good feeling about friends. They placed it in the Primo 830 spot on Thursday night, between Mad About You and Seinfeld. The pilot was seen by nearly 22 million people. Viewers were falling in love with the friends gang and their crazy shenanigans. It reflected real life, but a real life that was better than yours
