The Impact of War on the Environment

The war in Ukraine generated an estimated 120 million tonnes of extra greenhouse gases, the equivalent yearly emissions of 27 million American cars. A lot of these emissions simply went elsewhere. The destruction of forests and wetlands means there's a lower potential for carbon sequestration that is sucking carbon out of the atmosphere.
