The Importance of Salt in Ancient Cultures

Soybean farming in the US is really awful for the land, but when it's done traditionally. Soy puts nutrients back into the soil and can restore fields that have been exhausted by other crops. Egyptians may have also been the first to cure meat and fish with salt. The earliest Chinese record of preserving fish and salt dates back from around 2000 BC. Salted fish and birds have been found in Egyptian tombs from considerably earlier.
