How to Treat Urine Retention With Urology
The next step is going to be to decompress the bladder by placing an indwelling catheter. That should immediately cause relief of the retention and the abdominal pain. If the urine is not draining or the pain is not relieved, then you should consider further diagnostics. The patient may need like a cytoscopy with dilation to actually place something. It's easier than putting an ultrasound guide IV. You're aiming for a large target. So that's always one option.
