The Freedom of Loving Whoever You Love
The film was supposed to take place next to the sea on a seashore, not inland like it does. I've always loved those marvelous Hellenistic bronzes that have been mostly pulled up out of the sea. And I thought, well let's have a statue that they find. And that gives the father something to do. It was a much more involved scene than you actually see in the film. They had very little shooting time because it rained all the time while they were shooting. Every single day it was the rainiest May and June that Italy's had in 500 years or something like that. So what you see is what you got.
