The Louvre's Guide to Copying Paintings
A painter named Louis Baroud sought permission from the Louvre to copy paintings in the permanent collection. Mona Lisa received a very small amount of attention until the second half of the 19th century. Officials determined that Mona, as well as many other priceless works, were far too accessible and needed more protection.
