The first 200 thousand canadian dollars you'd earn in your lifetime is tax free, after which you start paying a bit of tax on all of it. It's very difficult if you don't have a four figure sum stashed away somewhere or more to make long term trade offs between long term and short term decisions. And so one of the best things i think we can do for the financial health of the country is to start people off with some sort of financial buffer. I also think giving people savings to start with encourages savings, but i think you should do this in a way that's draw downable. Having a big pension and being unable to buy a house isn't much help
