The Role of Misdemeanors in the Criminal Justice Process
I think it's important in these conversations to underline the fact that something that Trump has tried to do is to strip the rule of law, at least as it applies to him, out of our civil society. That makes it even more important in this case to remind people that Trump, like any other defendant, is innocent until proven guilty. He has a right to remain silent if he can. We need to let the system take its course with all those protections in place. I would never bring a case against a former president as a prosecutor, as a misdemeanor. There's something on the trivialish side about that.
