The Ethics of Artificial Subjectivity
If we accidentally build a robot that's happy and find dru in everything, well, no problem, really. But if we accidentally building a robot that can can suffer, that's something we need to be much more worried about. We face this not just with robots, but with other animals, of course, as well. The question is not whether they can reason, not whether they could, but whether they can suffer. And that's the fundamental question that prescribes our behaviour towards things that are not ourselves.
